Sandcarving Vs. Laser Engraving

Sandcarving/Sandblasting has become a very effective method for personalizing a variety of different surfaces such as glass, marble, and ceramic. We accomplish this process by using a sandblaster and a laser mask. The laser mask is adhered onto the surface of the item desired to be sand carved. It is then processed in a laser engraver, where open areas are then revealed on the mask. After the laser mask has been processed, sandcarving is achieved by propelling streams of an abrasive (aluminum oxide) under compressed air, which in turn etches the "open" areas of the laser mask, and the remaining “closed” mask area protects the surface from abrasion. Once the sandcarving process is completed, the laser mask is removed, leaving a beautifully etched image on the surface. This process adds much more definition, consistency, and depth to glass, marble, and ceramics than an engraver alone. If you desire high quality work, you may consider sandcarving versus engraving. If you are looking for decent quality, less depth, and a lower price, you may consider laser engraving. Either process can quickly produce a wide range of ideas for gifts and awards. The choice is yours.
